ArtSmart is a standards-based professional development program for educators created by the Fresno Art Museum. The ArtSmart training takes into account the unique needs of Central Valley educators and provides them with fun and exciting ways to integrate core subject areas into art. The ArtSmart curriculum places the arts back into the classroom by addressing the state standards of the core curriculum subjects with an emphasis on math, language arts, social science ,science and character education. ArtSmart lessons are created in such a way that they tie the core subjects to the visual arts and not the other way around.
Educators who are trained in the ArtSmart method have access to 75 lesson plans that are designed to enrich the students’ and the teachers’ understanding and appreciation of the visual arts while supporting core curriculum standards. ArtSmart uses innovative lesson plans as a way of incorporating art into core curriculum subjects and using Visual Thinking Strategies (VTS).
The ArtSmart training consists of 16 hours of instruction that covers the elements and principals of art. Teachers will learn how to combine art with core subject areas and tailor them to the needs of the students as well as learn basic techniques for drawing, painting and printing.
NO experience in the arts is necessary, just an open mind. Come learn how artistic you can be.
The cost is $99 for 16 hours of training. One unit of credit is available from Fresno Pacific University for $55.
